Dr. Alan Mandel explains the importance of facial exercises for maintaining healthy and youthful skin. Just like any other muscle, facial muscles need to be strengthened to prevent sagging and wrinkles. These exercises increase blood flow to the skin, delivering oxygen and nutrients essential for collagen synthesis. Some exercises include cheek lifts, forehead smoothing, jaw exercises, eye exercises, and tapping the face to stimulate circulation. By committing a few minutes each day to these exercises, significant improvements in skin texture and appearance can be achieved in just a few weeks.

When it comes to having healthy, smooth skin and preventing wrinkles, it’s important to build collagen. Just like any other muscle, our facial muscles need exercise. If we don’t use them, they can become weak, causing the face to sag and the skin to become loose. Facial exercises increase blood flow to the skin, delivering oxygen and nutrients essential for collagen synthesis. This increased circulation stimulates fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing collagen.
The first exercise is called cheek lifts. Close your lips together and smile, with the edges of your lips going upwards towards your eyes. Hold this for about 5 seconds and repeat 6 to 8 times.
The second exercise is forward head smoothing. Place your two fingers on top of your eyebrows and push down as you lift your eyebrows up against your fingers. Hold for 5 seconds and repeat 10 times.
To work the muscles on the outside of your lower face and under the jaw, do jaw exercises. Jut your jaw forward and feel the muscles contract. After a few seconds, relax and repeat 6 to 8 times. For more muscle contraction, bring your chin forward and lift your head upwards while doing the exercise.
Next, take your tongue and push it up against your hard palate. Feel the muscles underneath your jaw and neck area contract. Hold for 3 or 4 seconds, relax, and repeat 8 to 10 times.
For simple eye exercises, close your eyes and open them widely. Hold for a moment, then close them again. Repeat this 30 times to work the muscles around the eyes and keep the skin firm.
For the forehead area, take your thumb and place it above your eyebrows, then take your index finger and place it below your hairline. Push in and stretch out your forehead, smoothing out wrinkles. As you do this, lift your eyebrows against your fingers. Hold for 5 seconds and repeat 8 times.
To stimulate increased circulation and blood supply, use the pads of your fingers to tap all around your face. Tap on the forehead, outside of the cheeks, around the nose, above and below the lips, and underneath the jaw. This tapping stimulates collagen production and is a natural and healthy way to increase circulation.
By doing these exercises daily for a few minutes, you will see great results in weeks. Not only will your skin look younger and healthier, but you will also feel better about yourself. Share this video with your friends and family, leave your comments below, and have a great day! – Dr. Alan Mandel
